David de Gea is named in Manchester United's Champions League squad

The club’s other Spanish goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, misses out however.

MANCHESTER UNTIED TODAY unveiled their squad for the group stages of this year’s Champions League and both new signing Anthony Martial and goalkeeper David de Gea have made the 26-man shortlist.

The Spanish shotstopper, whose move to Real Madrid collapsed on deadline day, is one of three goalkeepers to make the squad but there’s no place for Victor Valdes who has had a rather public falling out with manager Louis van Gaal.

There are no other high-profile omissions though the inclusion of the likes of Nick Powell and Guillermo Varela suggests the three-times winners of Europe’s premier club competition may lack squad depth.

United get their Champions League campaign under way on Tuesday, 15 September against PSV Eindhoven.
